Bee-hind The Pen Name

I chose “Bee” as my pen name because my middle name starts with the letter “B” and because bees are undeniably adorable. Plus, “B. Barnes” was already taken by another author, so this felt like a natural fit.

How Writing Found Me

When I was seven or eight years old, we lived in this neighborhood with only a few kids to play with. That meant that I ended up friends with this older boy, who, looking back, was a terrible menace. Not always in a charming way, either. But he was obsessed with Dragon Ball-Z, so of course that meant I was, too.

Since his favorite character was Goku, obviously that meant Goku couldn't be mine as well. I chose Vegita. Not sure why I picked him, but I was determined to like him. Afterall, he had to be my favorite. Forever. There was only one way to do it: make up reasons to like him.

So when I got home, I begged my mom to let me write 'a book' on her massive desktop computer, and when she finally caved, I wrote my first story. Three and a half paragraphs later I had a cool story about Vegita saving a dog that can fly. That's when I was hooked. Not on Vegita, but on writing.

Horror Obsessive

I also write for a horror magazine. This is a recent achievement of mine, but I love it. I'm a very opinionated person, and being able to spout my thoughts on literature as part of my career is really a dream come true.

The first review I put up had the author commenting on it. Which terrified me at first since I didn't fall head over heels for the book he wrote. Fortunately, he was perfectly pleasant and took my criticism in stride. I look up to him a lot for that.

I know not all of my reviews will be met that way, but I'm thankful the first one was. It makes me look forward to what others will have to say.
